Because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed.
Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
— KJV; John 20:29

The Word Above All Else
In “Part 1“, we elaborated on a position that we have expressed in several essays: that Christ’s Eternal Word is everything as relates to His Mission on Earth.
It is independent of, and of more importance, than the many external earthly events that we have ascribed much importance to, whether relating to His birth, Crucifixion, or Resurrection (as discussed in Part 1).
Our refusal to accept this has led to a superficial Christianity, one that focuses on externals and church rituals instead of using Christ’s Word as the mechanism to understand how the world actually works and thus to make better decisions for ourselves and for society e.g. what laws govern Creation (ref. “Law of Attraction – Pseudoscience or Fact?“), why Love is such a powerful force (ref. “Love: A Certified Spiritual Seed“), how we sow what we reap (ref. “Judging You, Judging Me“), how forgiveness works (ref. “‘Arise & Walk’: Did Christ Forgive Sin?“) etc.
The same applies to the many miracles He worked: they are not of major importance relative to His Word.
Christ Did Not Want Us To Focus on Miracles
We investigated this in detail in “Cast Thyself Down” and will not repeat the discussion here. Suffice it to say that Christ preferred not to be associated with miracle-working, as discussed in that essay and indicated in verses like:
And immediately the leprosy departed from him.
And he charged him to tell no man…
— Luke 5:13-14And straightway his ears were opened,
and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.
And he charged them that they should tell no man…
— Mark 7:35-36

Christ Rejected Faith that Arose Because of Miracles
Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day,
many believed in his name when they saw the miracles which he did.
But Jesus did not commit himself unto them
—- John 2:23–24Except ye see signs and wonders,
ye will not believe.
—- John 4:48
The fact that Jesus was unimpressed by those who professed “belief” because they had witnessed miracles is well documented. He wasn’t interested in a personality cult.
Christ wanted us to understand The Word (which requires living It) above all else (ref. “Act To Experience To Know“). Belief because of miracles is shallow and personalised.
Become Born Anew Through The Word
Whether the miracle has to do with Christ’s actions, or the circumstances of His birth or death etc, it is all the same: of secondary importance to Truth; to The Word that only He, as a Son of God, could utter (ref. “What Is The Word: The Basics“):
To this end was I born,
and for this cause came I into the world,
that I should bear witness unto the Truth.
Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
— John 18:37
Salvation lies in changing ourselves by following this Word, not in following miracles.
Today’s Resolution:
- We will refocus on studying Christ’s Word ourselves with the intention of practicing It in order to experience Him and achieve genuine faith.
