The Spiritual Always Manifests
We discussed these issues in “Active Spirit, Passive Matter” and “Creating Is Perpetual“.
By “covered”, “secret”, or “hidden” is meant what is invisible – our will, thoughts, and also words and actions that we believe to be “private”. To be “known” or to “come abroad” means to become materially evident.
As already explained, the non-material will eventually “condense” into visible matter. Matter has no life or “creative” potential of it’s own – it is merely “dust”:
It is the spirit that quickeneth;
the flesh profiteth nothing:
— John 6:63
Everything we observe materially is the end result of a non-material process.
Preliminary vs Final Effects
As per “The Unforgiven, Part 2“, we should not confuse interim material effects with the final result. An ugly seed can produce a pretty flower which can in turn produce a bitter fruit.
If a thief suddenly becomes wealthy, it is naive to conclude that his wealth is the final result of his selfish acts. It is an early consequence, and as explained in “Judging You, Judging Me” the effects of his action continue to work on spiritually to produce a complete harvest.
The Perfection of the Laws of Creation exhibits both Love and Justice, and brings about material conditions that simultaneously satisfy multiple conditions, including:
- That the perpetrator can experience what he once inflicted on others. This gives him a chance to learn and improve.
- That the one-time victims be compensated by the perpetrator;
This may be called the “closing of the cycle” between perpetrator and victim.
Whether the experience will bring about character improvement is left to the free will of the perpetrator. That the cycle is closed does not automatically make him a better person.

The Reaping
For illustrative purposes, imagine a scenario where the thief falls on hard times, and is forced to take on a task, job, or service that in some way benefits the victim.
Neither party needs to be directly acquainted with the other for the necessary conditions of manifestation, harvest, and completion to be fulfilled:
- The thief experiences the sort of hardship he once inflicted on others, which is a learning opportunity. This is love.
- His action forms a compensation, a balance, for what he once took from his victim. This is justice.
The Timing Problem
Many Christians agree with this in principle, but struggle to reconcile all the effects within the span of a single lifetime. There seem to be a lot of people “dying happily” after committing many atrocities. And the answer “they will go to hell” justifiably appears incomplete and imperfect to many thinking people.
As explained in earlier instalments (e.g. “Imperfect Miracles“, “God’s Perfection“) we must approach such explorations with the basic tenet that the Almighty is Perfect. Injustice, arbitrariness, want of logic, etc. are simply not possible with the Laws of Creation.
Otherwise we would also observe arbitrariness in the laws of science (gravitation etc.), which are the material manifestation of the Divine Laws. And that is impossible, otherwise the entire material world would not be able to exist and hold together.
Irrespective of how unjustly we use our free will, the Laws of Creation will return a harvest perfectly balanced in Love and Justice, and these results will be “known” and “come abroad”.
There are two factors that confound our ability to see these operations:
- Our ignorance of The Word. We ourselves lack the ability to properly judge what we see. We are incompetent gardeners that often do not understand what is going on in the garden. We do not correctly interpret what has already become materially evident.
- Our narrow view of human existence. We expect that, ideally, all sowing and reaping must take place within one lifetime. But is this actually correct? This is a big question, and we shall explore it in the next essay.
Today’s Resolution:
- We will pause and reflect on the happenings around us, trying to interpret them through the lens of God’s Perfection.
