63. The (Free) Will To Be Born Anew

This essay continues a sequence. Read the previous one here.

Christ described what a real human being could be, and it is completely different from our current nature.

We continue with our investigation of concepts related to the idea of being “born anew” (ref. “Ye Must Be Born Again“).

Human Free Will

In “Creating Is Perpetual” we established that when we use our free will to make decisions, we are using spiritual power that causes things to happen in the physical world:

It is the spirit that quickeneth;
the flesh profiteth nothing:
— KJV, John 6:63

So, free will is a spiritual power that makes us “mini-creators”.

In “The Unforgiven“, we established that free will was given to us through the Power of the Holy Spirit.  We also explained that “through the Power of the Holy Spirit” is the same as saying “through the Laws of Creation”.

Holy Will vs Free Will

The Power of the Holy Spirit drives the entire Creation.  We are surrounded by It.  It is omnipresent. It is not something that appears randomly here or there.

So, the Power of the Holy Spirit is always available. That does not mean that we “control the Holy Spirit”, as some seem to believe. That a small human being would control any aspect of the Almighty Creator is a childish thought.

We have access to a “stepped-down” version of this Power through our spiritual free will. We employ our spiritual power for the purposes of sowing, but the reaping is entirely controlled by the Omnipotent Power of the Holy Spirit, which manifests in the Laws of Creation.

Free Will vs Enslaved Will

In “Fall Down And Worship Me!“, we described how Lucifer successfully introduced vanity to us, a weakness that guarantees that we will misuse our free will.

In that essay, and also in “Blessed Are The Pure In Heart“, we explored how vanity, the inflated human ego, obstructs spiritual vision and leads to spiritual ignorance.

For every one that exalteth himself shall be abased;
and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
— Luke 18:14

In “Turn The Other Cheek: Why? How?“, we explained how it is that this our ego not only obstructs spiritual vision, but also limits free will.  Our behavioural patterns become preconditioned.

Without a complete renewal of self, we do not have a truly free will – we have an enslaved will.

So the Power of the Holy Spirit is always available, but we are unable to make proper use of it because we have shackled our free will.  We misuse it like robots programmed by Lucifer, constantly sowing evil seeds.

The Wages of Sin Is Death

As explained in “The Unforgiven” the natural outcome of this, followed to its logical conclusion, is spiritual damnation:

[T]he blasphemy against the Holy Ghost
shall not be forgiven unto men.
— Matt 12:31

In other words, nature must run its course; man must reap what he sows in this Creation that is controlled by the Power of the Holy Spirit.

The only way to counterbalance this is for us to completely change the direction of our will, so that we begin to sow good seed while we still have time. In the same natural course of events the good seeds will counterbalance and perhaps nullify the effects of all the old bad seeds.  This process was explained in “Judging You, Judging Me“.

But since our “free” will is no longer free, and since we are so deep in spiritual ignorance, we have become unable to initiate or sustain this process ourselves.  A very special and very powerful intervention is required.  Such an intervention would be a gift of love, a great grace, since we do not deserve it.

The Word Is The Resurrection And The Life

Christ undertook this intervention through The Word:

If thou knewest the gift of God,
and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink;
thou wouldest have asked of him,
and he would have given thee living water.
— John 4:10

The words that I speak unto you,
they are spirit, and they are life.

–John 6:63

Today’s Resolution:

  • We will anchor our actions in Love, which is the key to regaining true free will.
