24. “The Law” vs Divine Law: Spirit of the Law

These essays are written in sequence and build on each other. Read the preceding essay here.

In the first part of this discussion, we made a distinction between implications of God’s Will (e.g. “thou shalt”) and God’s Will Itself.  We also explained further aspects of the concept of “Divine Will” or “Divine Laws” that we had touched upon in earlier essays such as this one.

The revelation of God’s Will is Truth.  Only One in whom there is Truth can provide the Truth i.e. knowledge of God’s Will, directly.  This One was Christ:

Moses gave you not that bread from heaven;
but my Father giveth you the True Bread from heaven.

— John 6:32

What Moses provided was a guide to aligning with the Divine Laws, not the Divine Laws themselves.

Because Creation originated out of God’s Love, the Divine Laws express God’s Love which, as we have discussed at length, is unified with His Will

Therefore a correct explanation of God’s Will would have to be based on love. Christ’s Word is Truth, and therefore provides this correct explanation.

Again, since Creation is a work of love, the goal and direction of the Laws of Creation is the expression and manifestation of God’s Love.  As we discussed at length in an earlier essay, the Omniscience that is within God’s Will and God’s Love ensures that the Laws of Creation provide infinite possibilities to help every man who requests in the spirit of true love and humility, in any situation.

Knowledge of the Divine Laws is knowledge of Truth, and in this gift of knowledge of Truth, i.e. the gift that is Christ, is contained God’s grace. Therefore it can be said that:

For the law was given by Moses,
but grace and Truth came by Jesus Christ.

–John 1:17

As earlier discussed, The Word, Truth, had to come to earth because we human beings had gone so far astray that we did not have the right understanding of any of the revelations that had been given through several prophets, which would have served as stepping stones to Truth itself.

It was not only necessary for us to “revise” the guidance we had already been given (e.g. by Moses), but to understand the “why” of such guidance, so that we could more consciously do the right thing and be less likely to stray again in the future:

To this end was I born,
and for this cause came I into the world,
that I should bear witness unto the Truth.

— John 18:37

Christ revealed Truth in parables, in such a way that only those who make an effort and seek in humility will find the explanations of the Laws of Creation:

Therefore speak I to them in parables:
because they seeing see not;
and hearing they hear not,
neither do they understand.

— Matt 12:13

As has been discussed earlier, through humble seeking in The Word, and then through acting upon our growing understanding, we gain the experiences that are necessary to truly recognize and understand God’s Will (the Laws of Creation):

If ye continue in my word,
then are ye my disciples indeed;
And ye shall know the Truth,
and the Truth shall make you free.

— John 8:31

It is therefore high time for us to concern ourselves with the Laws of Creation.

Humble and open-minded exploration of The Word coupled with the daily effort to live 100% accordingly is the path to this.

Today’s Resolution:

  • We shall seek deeper in The Word, to uncover the Truths gifted to us by Christ.
