4. What The Word Is, Part 2 : Truth

These essays are written in sequence and build on each other. Read the preceding essay here.

The Word is Truth

In the previous essay we established that Christ carried Truth, The Word, within Him. It was a Part of Him.

Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then?
Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king.
To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world,
that I should bear witness unto the Truth.
Every one that is of the Truth heareth my voice.
Pilate saith unto him,
What is Truth?
And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.

— KJV, John 18:37-38

Absolute Truth resides in God Almighty, who is perfect and therefore unchangeable.

God created the World.

The work of an inventor reflects the style of the inventor. Therefore the World (Creation) reflects various attributes of the Creator.

One of such attributes is Truth. Creation works according to Truth.

Only the inventor, or one trained by him, can properly explain the operating procedures of the machine to the user.

We can call the operating procedures of the machine of Creation the “Laws of Creation”. The Laws of Creation are “the way the world actually works” or “the way things truly are“.

Therefore we can say that the Truth for mankind is identical to knowledge of the Laws of Creation. Understanding of The Word leads man to knowledge of the Laws of Creation.

Christ manifested and explained the Truth (the Laws of Creation) in The Word to mankind through his actions, parables, and instructions.

If man understands the Laws of Creation in their true sense, he understands Truth, and can adjust himself accordingly.

We have already discussed the importance of humility in understanding The Word. Only he who seeks honestly and humbly in The Word will find the explanations of the Laws of Creation therein.

Over thousands of years, the Truth was gradually revealed to men, bit by bit, through various revelations. Each revelation was suited to the culture, language, and level of spiritual maturity of human beings at the time.

Christ, being a Part of the “Inventor” of Creation, was in a position to comprehensively and simply explain the Laws of Creation in a way that no prophet could have done, because He bore The Word within Him.

To this end was I born,
and for this cause came I into the world,
that I should bear witness unto the Truth.

— John 18:37

Moses gave you not that bread from heaven;
but my Father giveth you the True Bread from heaven.
For the Bread of God is He which cometh down from heaven,
and giveth life unto the world.

— John 6:32

The Word is Love

We have established that Creation works according to Truth.

In all parts of the world, men had failed to truly understand the revelations of Truth that they had received over many millennia.

One fundamental reason for this is because mankind separated Truth and Love.

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

— Matt 5:17

In the case of the Jews, Christ explained to them that they had failed to understand the aspects of Truth given through Moses (the Ten Commandments) not because of any fault in the law, but because they had failed to grasp the Love that is at the heart of all Truth.

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God
with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it,
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

— Matt 22:37

Therefore The Word, which explains Truth and the Laws of Creation, must always be interpreted within the context of Divine Love.

This is a topic to which we shall return in a later essay.

The Word, Truth, the Laws of Creation, and Divine Love cannot be separated. They are as one.

He who seeks to experience them in isolation will only understand words and not “The Word”.

Today’s Resolution

  • We shall seek to reunify the concepts of Truth, Lawfulness, and Love in our hearts and minds, and interpret Christ’s Word accordingly.
